One way that the Museum of the American G.I. helps to provide that education to the young people is with GI Museum's Living History School Day in March.

Starting at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, March 25, 2022, this living history museum school day promises to be an exciting and educational event.

Living History School Day - A Unique Educational Event

A part of the historical Living History Weekend event, this living history museum school day in March focuses on teaching area school-age students in-home or private schooling about U.S. military history on a day dedicated just for students.

Allowing students to see history in a unique, new, and fun way, by observing and interacting in various Vietnam, WWI, and WWII battle reenactments alongside the many living historian reenactors participating in Living History Weekend, past events has been a huge success.

This year’s event promises to be even bigger and better, accommodating even more students than ever before.

Students Learn Thru Participation On Living History School Day

What will the students experience at this year’s living history school day?

This year, the program will offer more students a chance at learning about the American Civil War, and World Wars I and II as it features three different military Camp displays and a morning and afternoon session at each.

At each Camp, students can expect to see reenactments, interact with living historians, and learn what life was really like during these important times in U.S. military history.

The three displays include Camp Hood (WWII tanks, historic vehicles, small arms, and the U.S. as well as British Airborne Encampment living history displays), Camp Swift (U.S. Signal Corps, General Patton Headquarters, German encampment, and U.S. Navy Seabees living history displays), and Camp Travis (Civil War hospital, a tour of a WWI trench, and living history displays of WWI Salvation Army Donut Dollies as well as Allied and Axis camps).

Living History School Day Makes Learning History Fun

The best part about Living History Museum School Day in March is how enriching it is for students, allowing them to learn about important periods of American and military history in a fun and interesting way.

Students who participate in visual and hands-on demonstrations stay interested longer and retain the information longer as it makes a bigger impact than book learning alone.
