Microsoft 365 vs Google Workspace Productivity Suite Comparison!

West Seneca, United States - August 8, 2022 / ACP Technologies Inc. /

One of the key services that managed service providers bring to their clients is access to productivity tools that entire companies use to keep themselves functioning efficiently.

Among the available productivity suites available, two of the more notable names are Microsoft 365, formerly Office 365, and Google Workspace, formerly G Suite.

While each of these products is comparable in what they offer in terms of functionality, there are two significant reasons why more MSP services still choose Microsoft 365 over the competitor’s option.

How Do These Productivity Suites Compare?

Generally speaking, both of these productivity suites offer many of the same features and functionality that managed service providers bring to their business customers to promote easier productivity and collaboration within companies.

They all provide email, documentation, spreadsheet, presentation, file management, and calendar applications that can be easily shared for collaboration in a cloud environment.

They both do it in various competitive price tiers based on the level of functionality required and the number of employees using the service.

They are both fairly easy for MSP services to scale and configure based on how each company needs to use these productivity tools and provide effective security including two-factor authentication and other security tools.

Why Is Microsoft 365 The Better Option?

Where the two services differ are how managed service providers find Microsoft 365 to be more useful and flexible for their business clients

  • Better Functionality - Overall, while Google Workspace does offer competitive applications to those included in the Microsoft 365 productivity suite, the Google versions are not as functional as the Microsoft versions. Microsoft has been focused on business productivity for a very long time and though Google’s applications continue to improve, the fact remains that Excel is still far superior to Spreadsheet, Word is still far superior to Google Docs, and PowerPoint is much more functional than Google Slides. MSP services simply find that their customers are more familiar with the Microsoft applications, the industry leaders for decades, and prefer them for this reason. 89% of the rest of the productivity-suite-using business world agrees, according to research on the use of these products.
  • Desktop Applications - Another critical factor in the huge popularity of Microsoft’s productivity suite seen by managed services providers is simply the fact that in signing on with it, customers get full desktop versions of all the applications, something that is not available with the competing Google suite. Many customers want and require the ability to work offline in a fully-functional application. While the Google versions of these applications are available for offline work, these are not standalone applications and are less functional.

Microsoft 365 The Preferable Productivity Solution

There is no doubt that Google Workspace can be a great option for some companies looking for useful productivity tools and that it is a reasonable option over Microsoft 365.

Yet more managed services providers prefer and continue to offer the two simple facts that more companies know and already use these applications plus more businesses want the added ability to install a full desktop program on their computers over total reliance on cloud-based apps.

With nearly 90% of all users of these types of productivity suites choosing Microsoft 365, MSP services see no reason to offer the alternative unless it is at the request of their customers.

Google Workspace continues to improve over the years and may still become a worthy competitor to the equivalent Microsoft suite; however, as of right now, it still has far to go.
